Quilting for Halloween

Image
I've had the quilting bug this week, and managed to work on a couple of projects that have been living in my UFO pile for awhile. In 2008(!), my quilt guild did a swap of 9 1/2 inch blocks with a Halloween theme (my contribution was the Frankenstein block in the second row). This week I thought I'd take them out and put them together into a wall hanging with a simple sashed layout: So cute, yes? And I have the perfect spot to hang it. I'll quilt it with a large meander, I think, and call it DONE! Next up was a table runner, with half-square triangle blocks placed in the popular chevron layout: This package of 5 inch charm squares was purchased about 3 years ago, I think, and so I'm glad to get them out of the cupboard and into a project. Some simple quilting is in order to finish it up. Looks like I'll be spending some time binding over the next week!                                                         Patty

Vogue 8151

Image
I really like this idea of a lace front sweater, and had pinned this one from  Nordstrom  to my Pinterest boards.  Vogue 8151 is a very popular Tshirt pattern, and has been positively reviewed many times on PatternReview . I can't tell you how long this pattern has been in my collection, but I think it served the purpose well for my knit top. I cut out two separate fronts from View B: one of the gray knit, and one of the lace. Then I basted them together around the outside edges, and went forward treating them as one. Loved the neckline treatment...looks good and lays flat! Nice to have darts, and some waistline fitting :-) Michigan weather has been a bit like Fall this week, so I was actually able to wear my new top sooner than I would have thought. This was a great start to sewing some new pieces for my Fall/Winter wardrobe. I have another idea for sewing with this pattern, but next up will be a ponte knit dress.....i

Circle quilt/playmat

Like most of my sewing/crafting/blogging friends, I am inspired by and addicted to Pinterest ! When my daughter mentioned that she needed a baby shower gift for a dear college friend, I was glad that I had pinned  this tutorial to my "Quilts" board.  My daughter was already planning to gift the new arrival with a book or two, and we both agreed that this matching circle quilt/playmat would be a great shower gift. Fabric.com has a large selection of Dr. Suess fabrics , and I ordered 1/2 yard cuts of 5 different designs, adding to that some polka dot fabric from my stash. Note: due to the length of the  10 degree wedge ruler , fat quarters won't be big enough. In order to accommodate the 50" circumference, I pieced the back with 4 large wedge shapes using the red/white & black/white polka dot fabrics. Yippee...reversible! The quilt was sandwiched with a cotton/poly batting, and quilted in the ditch at each of the 36 wedges and around the
